THIMUN Goes Online!

The Hague International Model United Nations, or THIMUN for short, holds conferences every year which attract thousands of students from 200 different schools all around the world.

The ISB has been cordially invited to attend the annual conference taking place on January 25-29 in 2021.

The conference is a UN simulation aimed at highschool students that takes place over five days. Normally, the conference takes place at the World Forum Convention Center in The Hague. For the very first time, the conference is being held online in light the global pandemic. During these unprecedented times, it is important to provide mediums for the younger generation to analyse the world and develop skills in which to better understand it.

Despite the conference being online, the same standard is expected from participants and experienced experts and teachers attending. This also includes the strict and professional dress code.

Students will attend classes until 13:00 and then will take part in the conference until 18:00 at the Reinach campus. Students accepted into the press team will produce a full edition of the MUNITY newspaper every single day. Delegates and chairs from grades nine through eleven that signed up for the conference will be discussing contemporary issues with the chance to vote on resolutions like they would in the United Nations. There are different forums in which students will be delegated to, including but not limited to Security Council, Youth and Health and Human Rights.

The Human Rights Committee will be debating how to empower minority religions and how to eradicate domestic violence. The Economic Committee will discuss sustainable capitalism, measures for diversifying supply chains and the trade war between China and the United States. The various committees will cover a range of topics even within their council. This provides students with a medium to share and challenge their perspectives as well as improve their critical thinking and debating skills. Students will also have the opportunity to listen to guest speakers and panel discussions from international experts in their fields.
